Your voice is unique.

Your training should be too.

Private coaching gives us the time and space to listen closely to what your voice is doing, identify the habits that may be getting in your way, and build a clear path toward greater freedom, consistency, confidence, and artistry.

Whether you’re an experienced singer working through a stubborn technical issue, returning after time away, or simply tired of guessing about your voice, we’ll work with the voice you have today and the goals that matter most to you.

You’ve already tried to figure this out

Maybe you’ve taken lessons, trained seriously, watched countless tutorials, or spent years trying to piece things together on your own.

And yet, you still have questions.

Why does your voice flip or strain in certain places?
Why does your mix still feel inconsistent?
Why can you sing one style comfortably but struggle with another?
What is your actual range?
What key should you sing a song in?
Which exercises are really going to help your voice?

You may know the sound you want, but you’re not sure how to get there without squeezing, holding back, or losing the qualities that make your voice yours.

You don’t need more random exercises.

You need specific feedback about your voice.

What we can work on

Private coaching is tailored to your voice, goals, experience, and musical style.

Depending on what you need, our work may include:

  • Connecting chest and head voice by developing a stronger, more reliable mix
  • Reducing strain, squeezing, or unwanted flipping
  • Developing a stronger, healthier belt
  • Building range, stamina, and consistency
  • Finding more freedom in contemporary styles
  • Understanding your vocal range and choosing better keys
  • Improving tone, resonance, and vocal balance
  • Retraining deeply ingrained habits
  • Preparing for performances, auditions, or recording
  • Applying technique to songs without losing your individuality
  • Singing with greater confidence, expression, and artistry

You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what is wrong. Part of my job is helping you hear and understand what you may not yet be able to identify for yourself.

Your voice doesn’t need another random exercise

One of my greatest strengths as a teacher is my ear.

I listen closely to how your voice is functioning in real time and choose exercises based on what I hear rather than giving every singer the same routine.

An exercise is only useful if we understand why we’re doing it and whether it’s actually helping your voice move toward greater balance and freedom.

I’ll explain what we’re working on, what I want you to listen and feel for, and how to practice it effectively on your own.

Then we take that work into music.

Because the goal isn’t to become great at vocal exercises.

The goal is to sing the songs you care about with more freedom.

Advanced training. Real-world performance experience.

I’m an Advanced Instructor with the Institute for Vocal Advancement, where I’ve spent the past ten years deepening my work with developing, experienced, and professional singers.

My background as a singer-songwriter, recording artist, actor, and performer also shapes the way I teach. I understand the difference between making a sound in an exercise and actually using your voice in a song, audition, recording session, or performance.

You don’t have to perform for me

Even experienced performers need a place where they are not expected to deliver.

A voice lesson is a working space.

You can make strange sounds. You can try something that doesn’t work. You can ask questions, laugh at yourself, experiment, and be imperfect.

Sometimes we need to stop trying to sound “good” for a moment so we can become curious about what the voice is actually doing.

I want our lessons to feel focused and productive, but also safe, encouraging, and fun.

We’ll celebrate the small shifts that eventually become meaningful changes: a note that releases more easily, a vowel that opens, a phrase that connects, or a powerful sound that once felt impossible.

What Singers Say

“Most importantly, I’m singing with confidence and freedom. When I go out and play live, I can just focus on communicating the song.”

— Mike, Singer-Songwriter

“I have taken voice lessons for over 25 years, and this is the first time I feel confident that I will reach my goal of feeling confident in my mix. Annie specifically caters her teaching to your unique sound and is determined to help you reach your personal singing goals. If I had found Annie sooner, I think I could have booked so many more things. I’m so grateful I finally found her.”

— Leigh Rothbart, Singer

“Annie is the first voice teacher I’ve had who truly explains everything in a way I can understand. She breaks things down through science, metaphors, and examples so clearly. I now understand what my voice can do, what songs suit me best, and how to be more confident in my voice. I always leave our sessions feeling refreshed, inspired, and surprised at how far I’ve come. I can see that I’m consistently growing.”

— Nikko Austen Smith, Actor / Singer

"The more we worked together, the more I started to embrace real, doable goals, and then seeing the difference."

— Amberlee Colson, Actor / Singer
